Dear Neighbors:
Like many institutions, public libraries have changed a great deal over the years. They are no longer places of reverential quiet. The library now echoes the chatter of children and the quieter clatter of computer keyboards.
The library is many things to many people. It provides to toddlers and to grandparents, all seeking timely and accurate information, a quiet place to study, or just a good book to listen or read.
New technologies are changing the way information is provided. But contrary to dire predictions of the demise of the printed word, more books are being published than ever before.
Your new library is a gathering place for the community and an important facet of the educational network. With the new library building finally a reality, our challenge now is to balance the traditional role of the library as a haven for book lovers, while expanding the electronic resources needed to cope with an increasingly technological society.
