What is BOOKS PLUS?

BOOKS PLUS is a service of the Pioneer Library System's Outreach Department. BOOKS PLUS BOXES contains books, puppets, educational games, puzzles, audio and video cassettes, activity folders, etc. on specific themes. BOOKS PLUS BOXES are ideal for families, child care providers, homeschoolers, youth groups, grandparents, etc. Currently there are over 70 BOOKS PLUS themes for you to enjoy.

How can I borrow a BOOKS PLUS BOX?

Boxes may be borrowed through interlibrary loan from any of the 42 public libraries in Livingston, Ontario, Wayne or Wyoming Counties or directly from the Outreach Department at the Pioneer Library System Office, 4595 Rt. 21 North Canandaigua, New York 14424. The Victor Free Library has BOOKS PLUS sign up forms. Complete the form and we will forward your request to the Outreach Department at System Headquarters. A confirmation will be mail to you.

How many boxes may I borrow?

A limit of 12 boxes in a 6 month period is set because of the large amount of requests we receive for BOOKS PLUS.

How long may I keep a BOOKS PLUS BOX?

The loan period is 14 days from the day it is borrowed from the Library System Office until the day it is returned to the System Office. To get the maximum amount of time, be sure to pick up your box the day it arrives at the Victor Free Library. Overdue BOOKS PLUS BOXES will be charged a fine of $1.00 per day. Should you find that you are going away or unable to use the boxes for a period of time, please call Outreach Clerk, Nancy Herzig at Library System Headquarters, (716) 394-8260 to cancel your boxes.

Will this loan period affect my choice of BOOKS PLUS BOXES?

The BOOKS PLUS collections are very heavily booked because so many families enjoy them. As a rule there are four boxes for each of the "Preschool" and "For All Ages" themes which helps increase your chances of getting the box you want. The fourteen day loan period means that a box may not always be available as soon as you want it. Please be patient.

How do I know is an item is missing when I receive a box?

The word "MISSING" will be written next to the item on the inventory list taped on the inside of the cover of the box.

What is we lose or break an item in the box?

If an item is lost or broken beyond repari, you will be billed for its replacement cost.

Which BOOKS PLUS BOXES are suitable for my situation?

Some of our boxes are suitable for all ages and family groups; some are assembled especially for preschoolers; and the "Reminiscing Collection Boxes" are designed for use by adults. Remember to supervise BOOKS PLUS Small game parts or plastic bags could be dangerous for small children. If you feel that an item in a box is not suitable for your family or group, please remove it before the box is used. It is your responsibility to check the contents of the box prior to using it and before returning it to the library.

If you have any questions about Books Plus please call the Pioneer Library System at 716-394-8260, and ask for Outreach Clerk, Nancy Herzig.
