Q. What is Books on Wheels?
A. Books on Wheels is a volunteer
service that delivers library materials to patrons who are unable to come
to the library for health or physical reasons. The service may be
used on either a temporary or permanent basis.
Q. What does the service cost?
A. The service is free. Delivery
is provided by trained volunteers.
Q. Who is eligible?
A. Eligible patrons are residents
in the Victor and Farmington area who cannot get ot the library for reasons
such as illness, injury or handicap. The Victor Free Library serves
residents of the Victor Central School District.
Q. How does the service work?
A. After you are signed up for Books
on Wheels, you can set up a regular schedule for pick-up and delivery with
your volunteer. It is possible to request specific titles and authors
or rely on the volunteer to bring a small supply of books, audio tapes
or magazines.
Q. What is available for borrowing?
A. Regular and large print books,
paperback books, magazines, and books on tape or CD. Almost anything
you would find in a typical library visit.
Q. How long may I keep materials?
A. You and the Books on Wheels volunteer
will set up a schedule that works for you. Normally we schedule visits
every three weeks. Items can be renewed by phone if necessary, provided
there are no other patron requests for the materials. The patron
is responsible for any lost materials.
Q. How do I start this service?
A. Simply call one of the volunteer
coordinators to set up an initial visit. At that visit we will ask
you for information about your reading preferences and any limitations
that will affect your reading materials.
